Iwo Jima. Iwo Jima is a volcanic Japanese island. On February 19, 1945 American soldiers fought on the island of Iwo Jima. This fight lasted for 5 weeks, it was one of the bloodiest fights, and had a difficult terrain with volcanic ash, soil, and even volcanic rocks. We tried to seize the Japanese airfields. Japanese soldiers used underground bunkers, hidden artillery, and ground tunnels. Even though we lost many many soldiers we still won the battle.

Japan. At the beginning of WWII Japan wanted more world power. Under the control of Hideki Tojo, Japan started invading little countries around them like the Philippines. In 1937 they attacked and invaded a part of China. The US got mad at Japan and stopped trading with them, then Japan got made at us and attacked Pearl Harbor. Then we declared war on Japan and Germany declared war on us. Japan joined the Axis Powers.
